Manufacturers of electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment and charge point operators (CPOs) need to build more reliable charging infrastructure to keep pace with surging EV demand. But the gap between EV demand and a reliable EV public charging network is widening. 

In addition to lack of stations, failures of equipment, systems, and network connections are more common than you might think. One recent study of DC fast charging stations in a U.S. metro found only 72% functionality.
