The impact of race and class on higher education is startling—even more so in the wake of the pandemic. One study found that black students hold as much as 85.8% more student debt than white students. And almost one-third of Hispanic and low-income households surveyed say that COVID-19 affected a family member’s decision to re-enroll, compared to only 7% of white or upper-middle-income respondents. As such, higher ed institutions are being challenged to implement low-risk, low-cost opportunities for students to achieve a college degree.

This playbook lays out the barriers at-risk students face and the strategies that colleges can employ to tackle them. Content includes:

  • How to invest in a strong student support infrastructure
  • Case studies of alternative education models
  • Strategies for creating an accessible, flexible pathway for student success
