WEBINAR ON DEMAND
Duration: 1 hour

There is a lot of talk about electrical resiliency today, as the severe weather season and the California fire season kickoff during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. What steps do we need to take now to protect our critical infrastructure and communities from the next major grid outage, and how do we balance this need with our transition to a cleaner, carbon free grid? It’s a serious and complicated topic - and there are certainly a lot of options and viewpoints to consider.

Given goals for a cleaner U.S. power supply, utilities and policymakers are seeking more environmentally- responsible alternatives to a strategy of deploying traditional diesel generators for backup power/resilience. A critical question facing utilities, regulators, communities, large energy users, and other industry stakeholders is whether the same level of local community resilience provided by diesel backup generators can be achieved through economical microgrid alternatives that are more consistent with clean energy goals.

The Brattle Group has taken on this timely topic in their new research report, “Decarbonized Resilience: Assessing Alternatives to Diesel Backup Power.” We invite you to join our webinar, in which Peter Fox-Penner, co-author of the report, will dive into the report findings and detailed data comparing the feasibility, economics, and GHG emissions of several alternative microgrid systems commonly considered for resilience purposes.
