International CPG Report 2021: Consumer Goods In A Crisis

There’s a global intention to use ‘click-and-collect' and online grocery delivery services even more going forward - there are regional nuances to the level of intention.

  • 54% of consumers in Mexico and 34% in the US intend to increase their online grocery shopping.
  • There are lower levels of intention amongst Europeans
    • In Germany, retailers and brands can broaden their appeal to digital-centric consumers via organic and natural foods.
  • APAC region registers higher levels of intent than any other.
  • 54% of consumers in the UAE will utilize these services more.

There is a global intention to prioritise sustainability. Across all 17 markets, three in five consumers (60%) say they intend to support local businesses and buy local products more once the pandemic has subsided.

  • European consumers are more likely to agree that they intend to shop closer to home than disagree but it’s variable across markets.
  • There is a high amount of variability across APAC.
  • Indonesian and Mexican consumers show the highest level of intention to support local businesses / buy local products than any other market
    • Big supermarkets can play into this consumer sentiment by embracing local goods as part of their regular product lines.
