This is an intriguing time for construction. As the construction industry’s digital transformation continues at an encouraging pace, it’s a good time to ask, “Where do things stand today with offsite component manufacturing?”

Construction Dive recently surveyed 113 senior construction professionals to better understand the pace and direction of offsite construction. And while the overall confidence level is high for off site methods, the survey revealed there are signs of turbulence ahead. In this survey report, you’ll read about six major findings—many of them unexpected—about an industry in transition, including:

  • 30% or less of construction business is dedicated to offsite prefabricated or modularized building component construction
  • MEP components are the type of building components most often manufactured in-house
  • Most companies are moving toward more ETO work or already fully evolved ETO manufacturers; Few are remaining as strictly BTO construction companies
